Section 6029 of the Farm Bill authorized creation of the Rural Business Investment Program (RBIP). In October 2003, Bush Administration officials announced this new program, which is administered by a partnership between the Small Business Administration, USDA and USDA Rural Development's Business Programs.

Update:  The RBIP application period, associated with the June 8, 2004, Notice of Funds Availability, has closed. Five Rural Business Investment Company (RBIC) applications were received and are under review.
