USDA LOANS $147,000 FOR NEW DAY CARE, CAREER DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Head Start Center, Career Training Included in New Facility in Vermont
Washington, DC, September 29 -- The US Department of Agriculture's Rural Development mission area will loan $147,000 to the Central Vermont Community Action Council for the construction of a day care and learning center for residents of the Barre area, USDA Under Secretary for Rural Development Jill Long Thompson announced today. USDA Rural Development administers a number of programs designed to strengthen rural economies and expand infrastructure in rural areas.
"USDA and the Clinton-Gore Administration are committed to providing children in rural communities with the same access to quality Head Start programs as children who live in urban areas. We also believe that adults deserve the opportunity to continue their educations if they so desire," Under Secretary for Rural Development Jill Long Thompson said. "Education and training represent a wise investment in the community and I am pleased that USDA can contribute in this manner."
"This loan will help provide needed services to the residents of Barre," Rural Development State Director Roberta Harold said in Montpelier. "Providing educational services to both children and adults benefits everyone. The residents of Barre are excited to know that a new educational facility will be built. It is a win-win situation for all who are involved.
"The center will provide the only licensed day care center in the City of Barre, and will be available to over 9,400 residents of the area.
Through its Community Facilities Program, Rural Development's Rural Housing Service is striving to ensure that facilities - such as health care clinics, police and fire stations, schools and child care centers - are readily available to all rural Americans. The commitment of USDA to this effort is at the core of its mission and its promise to help build stronger, more vibrant rural communities across the nation.
