NEW JERSEY BOROUGH TO RECEIVE $1,249,100 LOAN FROM USDA
Farmingdale Residents to Benefit from Federal Water Program
WASHINGTON, DC -- September 29 -- The Borough of Farmingdale will receive a $1,249,100 loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to fund repairs and upgrades to the communities drinking water system, USDA Under Secretary Jill Long Thompson announced today. USDA is the Rural Development Agency that administers a number of programs designed to strengthen rural economies and expand infrastructure in rural areas.
"USDA's water program is an example of the Clinton-Gore Administration's priority of helping rural communities provide a basic service to local citizens," Long Thompson said. "Every citizen, regardless of where they live, deserves the right to be able to turn on their tap and receive a clean, safe drink of water ."
Farmingdale will use the funds to make extensive repairs and renovations to their present water system. The project will ensure that the residents of the community will have a clean water supply. Approximately 1,462 residents will benefit from the project.
"Today's funding announcement for Farmington reinforces this Administration's priority for targeting public health benefits and economic opportunities to rural communities," Ernest Grunow, New Jersey State Director for USDA Rural Development, said today. "Providing communities with a basic necessity, such as a clean and safe drinking water system, helps to improve the economic infrastructure and expand job opportunities for all who live in the region."
USDA's Water and Wastewater program administered through USDA Rural Development's Rural Utilities Service, is designed to bring fresh, clean drinking water and sanitary and environmentally sound wastewater facilities to rural America.
