USDA APPOINTS DEVIN NUNES TO HEAD RURAL DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS IN CALIFORNIA

     WASHINGTON, April 27, 2001--The U.S. Department of Agriculture today appointed Devin G. Nunes as the California State Director for USDA Rural Development..

     Nunes, from Pixley, Calf., is a dairy and row crop farmer in Tulare County. Nunes is currently serving in his second term as a Trustee with the College of the Sequoias. Nunes has worked to help bring smaller rural communities greater access to internet and satellite educational services. He has also developed educational partnerships between the College of the Sequoias and companies in the San Joaquin Valley to bring their employees additional opportunities to further their education.

     Nunes received a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Agricultural Business from Cal Poly State University and a graduate of the California Agriculture Leadership Program.

     USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs, and administers program assistance through three agencies: Rural Housing Service, Rural Business - Cooperative Service and Rural Utilities Service.
