USDA APPOINTS MICHAEL AUBE TO HEAD RURAL DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS IN MAINE
WASHINGTON, May 4, 2001--The U.S. Department of Agriculture today appointed Michael W. Aube as the Maine State Director for USDA Rural Development.
Aube, from Bangor, Maine, is the former Mayor and Council Member for the City of Bangor. He brings to USDA Rural Development 27 years of leadership in addressing economic and community development issues affecting communities in the state of Maine. He has served as the Commissioner of the state of Maine's Department of Economic and Community Development, and as an assistant to former U.S. Senators Mitchell and Muskie. Most recently, he has served as an Economic Development Representative in Maine for the Economic Development Administration (EDA), U.S. Department of Commerce.
Aube has organized and led trade missions to nine countries in four continents, and served as a panelist and presenter at several international and national conferences. He has served in various capacities on numerous boards and commissions, including as a member of the Maine State Board of Education (1988-92), Maine Technical College System Board of Trustees (1989-92), and High Tech Commission for State of Maine (1998). Aube received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College.
USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs, and administers program assistance through three agencies: Rural Housing Service, Rural Business-Cooperative Service, and Rural Utilities Service.
