USDA APPOINTS LYNN D. JENSEN TO HEAD RURAL DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS IN SOUTH DAKOTA

     WASHINGTON, July 27, 2001--The U.S. Department of Agriculture today appointed Lynn D. Jensen as the South Dakota State Director for USDA Rural Development.

     Jensen, from Lake Preston, owns and manages Lynn Jensen Farms in Kingsbury County. Jensen is one of South Dakota's most inventive and productive farmers. He recently has invented and developed precision soil density sensing technology that is currently under patent review. He also is a leader in the testing and utilization of the latest in satellite guidance, mapping, and planning. He also is the founder and partner of J & N Distributors which is a new joint venture specializing in the distribution and service of precision nitrogen sensing and application technologies.

     Jensen is a leader in local, state, and national agricultural organizations and ventures. He has been President, Chairman of the Board, and Chairman of Customer and Business Development for the National Corn Growers Association. He also has been President, Chairman of the Board, and an ex-officio member of the South Dakota Corn Growers Association. He is Treasurer of the Renewable Resource Research Institute, a multi-state, not for profit effort, organization specializing the analysis of novel business plans and research projects for the purpose of funding ag-processing facilities and products.

     Jensen was the founder and President of the Kingsbury County Corn Growers, and founder and president of Jensen Transport Inc., a trucking company specializing in bulky agricultural commodities. He also has been the President of the Kingsbury County Pork Producers. He also has been quite active in bringing together differing opinions and organizations to help form a consensus regarding an effective ethanol legislative strategy.

     USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs, and administers program assistance through three agencies: Rural Housing Service, Rural Business-Cooperative Service, and Rural Utilities Service.
