TAYLOR OLDROYD NAMED DIRECTOR FOR LEGISLATIVE AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT

     WASHINGTON, April 8, 2002--Deputy Under Secretary for USDA Rural Development, Mike Neruda today announced the selection of Taylor Oldroyd as Director of Legislative and Public Affairs for Rural Development. Oldroyd will serve as the central point of contact for legislative and public affairs for Rural Development's three mission areas: Rural Utilities Service (RUS), Rural Housing Service (RHS), and Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBS).

     "I am pleased to have Taylor Oldroyd on board to help Rural Development address the legislative and public affairs for our three mission areas," said Neruda. "He will provide leadership and direction by communicating with our numerous partners, both public and private."

     Oldroyd, of Provo, Utah has most recently been Deputy Mayor of Provo for Legislative Policy and Special Projects. However, his public career began in Washington, D.C. in 1991 as an assistant to John Doolittle (CA). Oldroyd has also worked for Representative Chris Cannon (UT), Representative Heather Wilson (NM), and the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce.

     Oldroyd earned a Bachelors degree in Political Science and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Brigham Young University.

     USDA Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs, and administers financial and technical assistance through three agencies: Rural Housing Service, Rural Business - Cooperative Service, and Rural Utilities Service.
