Outline of Need:
Southeast Alaska community needs a quality public safety building to provide effective police services.
How Rural Development Helped:
The community of Klawock, on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska found itself in need of a larger building to house its public safety department. USDA Rural Development stepped in with a $300,000 loan and a $900,000 grant under the Community Facilities program (learn more about this program). The existing public safety building was remodeled and expanded and now contains space for the city police department, the Alaska State Troopers, and Fish and Wildlife Enforcement personnel.
The Results:
A rural Southeast Alaska community of 800 enjoys enhanced public safety services thanks to the efforts of USDA Rural Development.
