Outline of Need:
The City of Grand View, Idaho, wanted to have a handicapped accessible public restroom at its city park. Curently, the only facilities there are two portable toilets which are set up for events. The city is a rural low income community with insufficient funds to cover the entire cost of the proposed project. The work completed to date has been done over the last several years to be able to afford it. The only public restroom is at the existing fire station and City Hall. Only the City Hall restroom is handicapped accessible.
How Rural Development Helped:
Rural Development is providing a $24,000 Community Facilities grant (learn more about this program) to install a pre-fabricated handicapped accessible restroom in the city park.
The Results:
The current facilities are not handicapped accessible to meet the needs and usage of the community. The city had enough matching funds to develop a single unisex unit, and raised funds to be able to upgrade to a double unit. With the help of Rural Development the City of Grand View will have a durable, vandalism-resistant handicapped accessible restroom in the city park, which will be a major improvement to the community and the park.
