Outline of Need: Wheatland Township was in need of a new home for its library. Their current building is nearly 100 years old, lacks adequate space, and also is not accessible for people with disabilities. How Rural Development Helped: Wheatland Township received a $255,780 Community Facilities loan from Rural Development. The Results: On October 24, 2001, the Township broke ground for a new 25,000-square feet library in Remus. When completed, the new library will provide additional space for children's programs and other activities as well as access for people with disabilities. The library will serve about 2,717 rural residents. | ![]() Photo, Left to Right: Library Board President Marvin Lett, Wheatland Township Superisor Larry Richards, and Library Board members Shirley Blackmer and Genevieve Lehnert help break ground for the new library in Remus. |
