Success Stories: First Anniversary

Outline of Need:

With the increasing interest in outdoor activities, a convenience store owner recognized the need for a fast food restaurant in Carter County along the Current River, a popular canoeing location in rural Missouri.

How Rural Development Helped:

Rural Development partnered with the convenience store owner and the First Commercial Bank of Dexter in the spring of 2001. The result was a USDA Guaranteed Business and Industry Loan.

The Results:

Picture of first anniversary celebration at the storeThe business was expanded to allow for the constuction and opening of a McDonalds Restaurant. The Current River Convenience Store and McDonald's combine to provide 33 jobs to residents in the Van Buren area.

The first anniversary celebration included Jo Ann Emerson, U.S. Representative, from Missouri, Greg Branum, USDA, Rural Development State Director from Missouri, and other governmental and local participants.
