Success Stories: Howell County Fire Department Receives $305,600 from Rural Development for a New Firestation

Outline of Need:

The firemen and fire equipment at the Howell County Rural Fire Department had outgrown their current facility. The Fire Department needed a better facility and more space to continue providing adequate fire service and protection to Howell County residents.

How Rural Development Helped:

Local residents, county officials, local businesses, state and federal agencies all worked together toward the common goal of helping to provide better service for Howell County residents. USDA Rural Development provided the Howell County Fire Department with a combined community facilities loan and grant of $305,600. The Howell Oregon Electric Cooperative provided a loan of $21,400, bringing the total funding package for the Howell County Fire Department to $327,000.

The Results:

The new facility will allow for all fire equipment to be in a central location plus provide for a modern training area for the First Responders and the local Volunteer Fire personnel.
