Outline of Need:
The small rural community of Dexter, Missouri needed to do something to attract new business and industry. Dexter Chamber of Commerce Development, Inc. purchased a building, which had been vacated by a closed business, last year with assistance from Dexter banks. The purpose was to provide space for small business development. The building needed remodeling before it could be occupied.
How Rural Development Helped:
The Dexter Chamber of Commerce Incubator Building project was the recipient of a grant from USDA Rural Development.
The Results:
The $141,100 grant will allow for the completion of the remodeling of the building. Once the renovations are complete the building will serve as a business incubator -- a facility in which small or emerging business may operate. Up to five new businesses may potentially be based at the facility, providing up to 50 new jobs to the area. In addition, there will be two small office spaces available, a conference/training room and the offices of the Chamber of Commerce. As businesses grow and move to other private facilities the incubator space will be available for other new or emerging businesses.
