Outline of Need:
The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments in St. Joseph, Missouri, was concerned about the lack of community development in their region. They wanted to attract new business and were looking for a way to get their message to prospective companies and investors.
How Rural Development Helped:
Through their partnership with Rural Development, the Council recived a Rural Business Opportunity Grant that enabled them to develop their website to include satellite websites to focus on cities and towns in their region of Atchison, Holt, Nodaway, Worth, and Gentry Counties.
The Results:
The websites, known as Online Community Profiles, are designed to serve as a location on the Internet where anybody can find a wide range of information about any community in the region, thus promoting interest in community development on a local level. In addition, the Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments has grown to 10 fulltime empoyees, four interns, and two part-time workers. It is hoped that as the popularity of the network grows, additional funding can be secured to increase the number of profiles online.
