Orland, California After being selected for
financing a Farm Labor Housing project in Orland, California in 2000, the City
of Orland placed a building moratorium on building the project. Fortunately,
the State of California's Farmworker Housing program, the construction lender,
and USDA-Rural Development were willing to shift their commitments to a
different project site. The developer lost the Low Income Housing Tax Credits
for the original project and needed to reapply for the tax credits. After three
additional applications the This project over came several hurdles to achieve their goal of farm labor housing and is truly an asset to the community of Orland, CA. In addition, it is a three story development, a rarity in small, rural communities. It was built as a three story development to take advantage of greater density on the site.
