Rocky Mountain Front Apartments

Rocky Mountain Front Apartments recently celebrated a Grand Re-Opening in Augusta, Montana. The 8-unit senior designated apartment complex, was built in 1977 with funding from USDA Rural Development’s Section 515 Program.  The Section 515 Program lends to renovate existing Section 515 projects. The previous owners managed the property since its construction 28 years ago and were interested in retiring. Rural Development hosted a Preservation of Affordable Housing meeting and presented this Multi-Family Housing project to partners and other eligible entities. Rocky Mountain Development Council (RMDC) took an interest in the property and later became the owners and managers of the project, keeping much needed affordable housing available to Augusta seniors.

After Rural Development staff met with local leaders, it was apparent that the project needed one unit to be converted to a fully accessible handicap apartment. RMDC assumed the previous debt on the project and took out an additional $125,000 loan from Rural Development for modernization and remodeling. The funding provided a new roof, new sidewalks, new windows, new carpet, new laundry facilities, and updated appliances. One unit was completely renovated to become fully handicap accessible.

 At the recent Grand Re-Opening celebration, Tim Ryan, State Director for Rural Development presented the officials from RMDC with an American Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol at the request of Senator Conrad Burns. “The senior population in Lewis and Clark County is significant and increasing. Access to safe, decent, and affordable rental units is critical to small communities like Augusta,” said Ryan. “Rural Development is committed to improving the quality and availability of housing for Montana’s rural communities.”
