After Rural Development staff met with local leaders, it was apparent that the project needed one unit to be converted to a fully accessible handicap apartment. RMDC assumed the previous debt on the project and took out an additional $125,000 loan from Rural Development for modernization and remodeling. The funding provided a new roof, new sidewalks, new windows, new carpet, new laundry facilities, and updated appliances. One unit was completely renovated to become fully handicap accessible. At the recent Grand Re-Opening celebration, Tim Ryan, State Director for Rural Development presented the officials from RMDC with an American Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol at the request of Senator Conrad Burns. “The senior population in Lewis and Clark County is significant and increasing. Access to safe, decent, and affordable rental units is critical to small communities like Augusta,” said Ryan. “Rural Development is committed to improving the quality and availability of housing for Montana’s rural communities.” To contact a Rural Development State Office near you
