State Director Ruth Tackett

Mary Ruth Tackett was appointed State Director of Rural Development of the U.S. Department of Agriculture by President George W. Bush on April 9, 2001. In this position Mrs. Tackett oversees USDA Rural Development policies and programs in the State. Rural Development consists of three program areas - business, utilities and housing. Their focus is on partnering with people to develop sustainable communities and to network with other lenders who, through mutural support and assistance, will help shape the future of Tennessee. Tennessee Rural Development currently has a loan portifolio of more than $1.3 Billion, nine (9) field offices and 141 employees across the state.

Ms. Tackett has worked for USDA Rural Development (formerly Farmers Home Administration) since 1966.  She brings with her 40 years of valued experience and service to USDA, having worked in several positions in County and District Offices in West Tennessee and now becoming Tennessee's first Woman State Director.

Ms. Tackett has completed numerous leadership and community development programs and four American Management Association courses for an AMA Degree.  Ms. Tackett is also a 1998 graduate of the WestStar Leadership Program, UT Martin and a member of the WestStar Alumni Association.  The WestStar program educates people to assume leadership responsibilities in economic and social development.

A native of Bolivar, Tennessee, Ms. Tackett is married to Glenn Tackett. They have two children, a son Doug, and a daughter, Amy.
