August 6, 2009 - MANCHESTER, Tenn. — U.S. Representative Lincoln Davis,
USDA Rural Development Administrator Tammye Trevino and USDA Rural Development
Acting State Director Robert Connelly, Jr. today announced an investment of
$5,000 to the Greater Van Buren County-Spencer Chamber of Commerce for small
business development in Van Buren County. A ceremonial check was delivered to
Chamber Director Ann McCormick at Rep. Davis' Sixth Annual Small Business and
Federal Grants Seminar held in
"I thank USDA Rural Development for partnering with the
Greater Van Buren County-Spencer Chamber of Commerce as they look for ways to
bring new industry and small businesses to the area," said Congressman Davis. "I
am pleased these recovery and reinvestment act dollars are headed to Van Buren
County to promote job growth."
The Rural Development grant will fund the purchase of
needed computer and other equipment that will be used for business development
and recruitment.
"Small business is the economic engine of rural
communities, creating jobs and helping maintain a healthy, diversified local
economy," said Connelly. "Thanks to the support of Congressman Lincoln Davis,
Rural Development has the financial and technical resources to partner with
local leaders to improve the lives and livelihoods of the people they
serve."
Rural Development’s rural business enterprise grant
program provides assistance to local governments and non-profit organizations
that assist small businesses, develop local business infrastructure, provide job
training, conduct feasibility studies or provide technical assistance to
businesses and community leaders.
USDA Rural Development invests in rural communities
through business development, community and homeownership programs. Last year
Rural Development assisted more than 678,000
