Bringing Broadband Technology to Rural America

The USDA Rural Broadband Access Loan and Loan Guarantee Program provide loans and loan guarantees for the construction, improvement, and acquisition of facilities and equipment for broadband service in eligible rural communities. These loans will facilitate deployment of new and innovative technologies to provide two-way data transmission of 200 kbps or more, in communities with populations up to 20,000.

USDA has contributed to the President’s Broadband Initiative by awarding more than $3.3 billion in loans and grants to fund broadband infrastructure. Those funds support high-speed broadband connections in more than 1.3 million rural homes and businesses.  Priority is given to applications that propose to service  areas where no residential broadband service currently exists.

Details on loan types and amounts, eligibility, and application procedures are available in 7 CFR 1738, the Notice of Application Deadline, and Rural Utility Service US Bulletin 1738-1, Rural Broadband Access Loan and Loan Guarantee Program Application Guide.

USDA Rural Development Specialists will be glad to discuss services available from the Agency and explain application procedures. Click here for the Rural Development Specialist closest to you.
